Desert Engagement Session // Katie + Erik

// Desert Engagement Session //

I am especially partial to these desert views as I spend quite a bit of time shooting out here. You would think that prickly things and potential rattlesnake sightings would deter me from spending time out there. NOPE! I love it. In my own opinion, there is no where better to watch the sunset dip below the horizon than the desert. The cactus (cholla in particular) almost glow from that sun hitting all those bushy needles. You bet I will make you go stand near them for your photos – just be careful not to touch.

Katie and Eric had just recently moved from New Mexico to Arizona. I figured the best way to celebrate their new move and new chapter was to take them out for a desert engagement session! It was my first time back once the heat had died down a bit and I was anxious to get exploring. We weaved in an out around the cholla and stood next to Saguaros three+ times as tall as us. Which, is a statement, considering Erik is 6’6″.

I loved their outfit choices for the session. They started off with a more edgy look, pairing light jeans with a little bit of leather. I’m all about adding some texture and the torn jean look on Katie was perfect. A long flowy dress was paired so well for the sunset portion of the session with the blush tone complimenting the desert tones. Pinterest worthy, for sure.

Want to visit the desert?

The Superstition Mountains have endless places for hiking and fall season is the most ideal time to go. The weather isn’t too warm and you are less likely to meet any slithery friends while you’re out there. You can find a bunch of options here!

Love these desert views? The Paseo Venue in Apache Junction has similar views and is so ideal for your desert wedding. See more here!
